The century opens with the dissolution of classical harmony. Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel reinvent sound color and free form; Béla Bartók gathers the folk heritage of Eastern Europe and translates it into rhythmic structure and modern polyphony.
The last symphonies of Gustav Mahler and the visions of Charles Ives announce the opening towards a new musical space, both cosmic and inner.

Andrea Penna hosts the evening program Radio3 Suite, a musical and cultural program on Rai Radio 3, in which he presents concerts and operas, and conducts interviews with conductors, singers, and soloists. He has presented numerous live concerts with audiences in Rai venues, Parco della Musica, and major Italian theaters. He regularly writes for La Repubblica, Il Manifesto, and The Classic Voice.
