The Free Crossing of Styles: Postmodernism
This lecture addresses the main international artistic trends that emerged in the context of postmodernity, from the late 1970s to the late 1980s.
The lecture explores Postmodernism, which encompasses phenomena such as American Graffiti (Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat), Transavanguardia (Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Enzo Cucchi, Nicola De Maria, Mimmo Paladino), and the Nuovi-nuovi movement in Italy, as well as the Neo-expressionists and the New Wilds in Germany (Georges Baselitz, Anselm Kiefer). A return to painting, quotation, and the free crossing of styles are defining features of this phase, which from another perspective seems to characterize the entire contemporary era, so rich in images that creating new ones is no longer necessary.
