Daniel Godínez Nivón is a visual artist, educator and independent researcher based between Amsterdam and Mexico City. His practice is grounded in tequio—a form of collective work rooted in Indigenous communities, especially in Oaxaca, Mexico—shaping a practice that merges social participation, pedagogy, and collective knowledge-making. Godínez Nivón investigates the ties between dreaming and the living world, asking how the dreams of humans and other beings can illuminate environmental crises and spark collective imagination. He studied at the UNAM Faculty of Arts and Design in Mexico City and later completed a residency at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht (2021–2022). His work has been exhibited, screened, and performed internationally, including at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Museo Tamayo, MUAC, Van Abbemuseum, Kunsthalle Bern, macLYON, ATLAS Arts and Amant. In 2022, he received the Prince Claus Fellowship Award and represented Mexico at the 23rd Milano Triennale, where the Mexican Pavilion received the Silver Bee Award. He currently holds the Mondriaan Fonds Artist Basis Grant (2025–2029).
