Cristina Jandelli
Cristina Jandelli is a full professor at the Department of Excellence SAGAS (History, Archaeology, Geography, Art, Performance) at the University of Florence, where she teaches Film History, History of Television Narrative Languages, Italian Cinema, and Theory and Analysis of Film and Television Language. Her research focuses on film history, with particular attention to the contribution of actors and actresses, acting styles, and Italian and international stardom, especially in relation to the silent era and the Italian national context. She also investigates film history from the perspective of gender studies. She is the author of I ruoli nel teatro italiano fra Otto e Novecento (Le Lettere, 2002; CUE Press, 2016), La scena pensante. Cesare Zavattini fra teatro e cinema (Bulzoni, 2002), and Le dive italiane del cinema muto (L'Epos, 2006; CUE Press, 2019). For Marsilio she has published Breve storia del divismo cinematografico (2007), I protagonisti. La recitazione nel film contemporaneo (2013), L'attore in primo piano. Nascita della recitazione cinematografica (2016) — winner of the 2017 Limina Prize for best Italian book on film studies — and Tre studi su Claudia Cardinale (2022), winner of the Kinomata Prize for best Italian book on cinema and gender studies.
