The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, founded in 1953 (originally as the Central South College of Fine Arts), is a leading public university in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China. It was formed by merging several institutions including the South China Institute of Art and Literature and Guangxi Arts College, and in 1958 it relocated to Guangzhou and took its current name. GAFA is the only higher arts institution in South China, and one of China’s eight major fine arts academies. It offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degree programs in fine arts, design, art theory, and related disciplines. Over the decades, it has developed multiple campuses, numerous schools and departments, and has become known for integrating traditional and contemporary art practices, promoting innovation, and playing an important role in regional and national art education and cultural development.
