Between Avant-Garde and Provocation: Abstractism, Russian Avant-Gardes, and Dadaism
From the geometry of Mondrian, Malevich, and Tatlin to the nihilism of Dadaism, Luca Guerrini explores the evolution of new expressive forms that marked the artistic landscape of the first half of the 20th century. The lesson examines the relationship between avant-garde and provocation, analyzing Abstractism, the Russian avant-gardes, and Dadaism.
The session explores the key concepts of Mondrian's Abstractism and De Stijl, Malevich's Suprematism, and Tatlin's Constructivism, all producing forms of mechanistic regular geometry. On the opposite side, it examines the critique of the machine carried out with nihilistic irony by Dadaism. Among them stands the figure of Marcel Duchamp, the inventor of the ready-made, an essential figure for the development of conceptual art from the second half of the 20th century to the present day.
