The Long Nineties. Exhibitions and Key Figures: From Jeff Koons to Tino Sehgal
Through the analysis of emblematic exhibitions and significant artistic figures, this lecture will provide a perspective on the 1990s: a decade of cultural, social, and artistic transformations that left a lasting impact on the collective imagination.
By examining significant exhibitions and emblematic artists, the lecture explores how 1990s art marked a return to the conceptual dimension. Unlike the conceptualism of the 1960s, the 1990s version is sharper, more ironic, and colorful, reflecting the influence of television and advertising. Among the artists discussed are Jeff Koons, Maurizio Cattelan, Damien Hirst, Olafur Eliasson, Cai Guo-Qiang, and Santiago Sierra, each of whom used their works to question and reflect on contemporary society.
