Circularity is more than a technical solution; it is a cultural principle that redefines how we think about resources, relationships, and time. This roundtable explores circular practices as both ecological necessity and cultural methodology, asking how institutions can embody cycles of care, renewal, and continuity rather than linear patterns of consumption and disposal.

The discussion considers material practices—such as reuse, repair, and sustainable design—alongside cultural ones, including the reactivation of knowledge, traditions, and artistic methods that might otherwise be forgotten. Circularity is thus framed not only as an environmental imperative but also as a way of sustaining cultural memory, intergenerational dialogue, and community resilience.

The roundtable invites participants to reflect: How can cultural institutions integrate circular thinking into their production, operations, and governance? What does it mean to imagine culture itself as circular, continually renewed through exchange and transformation? And how might embracing cycles of use, reuse, and regeneration create models of sustainability that extend beyond ecology into the very fabric of cultural life?

International Forum on the Sustainability of Cultural Institutions

The Forum is a global initiative dedicated to rethinking the role of cultural institutions in building sustainable futures. It explores how the cultural field can address ecological, social, and economic challenges through new models of collaboration, research, and transformation.
Structured around roundtables, and keynotes, the Forum brings together international voices to imagine institutions as ecosystems—resilient, inclusive, and deeply rooted in their communities.
