Katarzyna Wojtczak

Katarzyna Wojtczak (she/they) is a visual artist and activist with a background in architecture, currently based between Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Their practice is rooted in time-based media, encompassing film, text, objects, and performative collective actions. At the core of their work is an exploration of the dynamics between power and authority, with a particular focus on voice, periphery, and representation. Their practice acknowledges the tension between ruination and preservation, while seeking collective systems of regeneration.
As the initiator and co-founder of DOMIE, an experimental socio-artistic project space in Poland established in 2018, Wojtczak engages in developing alternative social economies of collectivity. DOMIE’s collective care practices of commoning critically address the commodification of space and knowledge, positioning the initiative as both a cultural platform and a social experiment in community-driven resilience.
Wojtczak holds degrees in Intermedia from the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań, as well as in Architecture and Urban Planning from the Università degli Studi di Firenze and Poznań University of Technology. Their academic and professional background informs a practice that bridges spatial thinking with artistic experimentation, always attentive to the social and political dimensions of place.
Their work has been presented in numerous international and regional contexts, including Manifesta 14 in Prishtina, documenta fifteen in Kassel, Split VideoArt Festival, Biennale of Western Balkans, State of Concept Athens, ZKM Karlsruhe, Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, lokal_30 in Warsaw, Municipal Gallery Arsenal Poznań, Białystok Arsenal Gallery, BWA Wrocław Galleries of Contemporary Art, Gdańsk City Gallery, and Biennale Zielona Góra.
