Being an artist today means inhabiting a complex ecosystem, made up of actors, economies, platforms and languages in constant evolution. Institution School brings together authoritative voices from the Italian art system — artists, curators, gallerists, collectors, philosophers and legal professionals — for an educational journey that addresses the questions every artist asks about their role, their practice and the system in which they operate.

Essere artista oggi: teoria e pratica per orientarsi nel sistema dell'arte (Course in Italian)

The course Being an artist today: theory and practice for navigating the art world is a concrete opportunity to acquire, through an eight-session educational programme, the tools needed to navigate the contemporary art system today.

Guided by some of the most authoritative voices in the Italian art system — artist Giorgio Andreotta Calò, curator Cristiana Perrella, curator Luca Lo Pinto, collector Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, gallerist Paolo Zani, philosopher Barbara Carnevali, designer Virginia Ferraguti, artist Elena Mazzi, curator Angelica Gatto, curator Patrizia Brusarosco, journalist and communication strategist Lara Facco, journalist and lecturer Cristina Masturzo, lawyer Luca D'Amelio, accountant Franco Broccardi and the platform for dissemination, research and curatorial collective Altremuse — each session starts from a key question to explore together, through theoretical perspectives and practical tools, what it means to be an artist today and how to build a lasting career in a rapidly changing system: from the relationship with the market and institutions to the sustainability of one's practice, from communicating one's research to the legal protection of one's work.

Sessions take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays, in Italian, on the Zoom platform. For the detailed calendar with dates, times and guests, see the full programme HERE.

In addition to access to the live sessions, their recordings and any supplementary materials shared by the speakers, the course includes an individual portfolio review session led by Fabio Cavallucci, critic, curator and founder of Institution, and the curatorial team of Institution School.

The course can be purchased on Eventbrite for €250, whilst students under 26 are eligible for a reduced rate of €150. Until 7 April, the course can be purchased at an Early Bird price of €150 (standard price) and €100 (reduced rate for students under 26). Those who have already attended Institution School courses are eligible for an additional 10% discount on the standard price.

Altremuse

Altremuse

Altremuse was founded in 2020 to make space for alternative narratives and perspectives in Art History and visual culture. On the one hand, it does so by cultivating diversified critical approaches; on the other, by keeping firmly in mind that, if the medium is truly the message, then it cannot do without bending towards a direct, contemporary, and cross-disciplinary language. We are an editorial platform that experiments with new forms of storytelling in dialogue with a broad audience. We are a creative studio specialising in the world of art and culture. We collaborate with cultural institutions and artistic organisations to create audiovisual content and narrative formats that translate a critical vision of art into contemporary and shareable experiences. We work in curating and cultural programming, applying our theoretical approach to public programmes, live performances, and interdisciplinary projects. In brief: Altremuse is an editorial platform and creative studio that since 2020 has been promoting alternative narratives in art history through a contemporary and cross-disciplinary language. It collaborates with cultural institutions, developing curatorial projects, audiovisual content, and innovative formats to make art criticism a shared experience.
