Riccardo Varini

Architect and designer, he works in interdisciplinary groups and develops public projects with a social impact in the fields of sports, healthcare, and culture, across Europe, Indonesia, and Italy. Since 2020, he has been Director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Design in San Marino, while pursuing personal research on the character of matter as an expression of local cultures and as mediation between humans, nature, and place. He founded the Community Design research unit and promotes Strategic Design for the enhancement of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, as well as for agriculture and craftsmanship in natural fibers of both plant and animal origin, between the East and the Mediterranean. He is Scientific Coordinator of the UNESCO Management Plan Unit for the World Heritage site “San Marino and Mount Titano.” He received a Special Mention at the German Design Award for the My Laundry Electrolux project and an Honorable Mention at the Compasso d’Oro ADI for the HP Lafert electric motor. In 2023, he served as Commissioner of the San Marino participation at the Venice Architecture Biennale.
