Stefano Cagol

Stefano Cagol (Trento, 1969) is an Italian contemporary artist. He has participated in the 59th, 55th, and 54th Venice Biennale, the 3rd and 2nd Something Else – Off Biennale Cairo, Manifesta 11 in Zurich, the 14th Curitiba Biennale, the 1st Xinjiang Biennale, and the 1st Singapore Biennale. Solo shows include museums such as the Graeco-Roman Museum of Alexandria (2025), MAC in Lissone (2023), CCA Center for Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv (2021), MA*GA in Gallarate (2019), Galleria Civica-Mart di Trento (2016), ZKM Karlsruhe (2012), and Mart – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto (2000).
His most recent participations include Noor Riyadh 2024 and the publication "Climate Crisis and Cultural Loss," edited by Ute Meta Bauer, while Timothy Morton contributed to the book dedicated to his latest project, "We Are the Flood."
His process-based research has also developed in recent years through curatorial practice. Since 2022, he has created the We Are the Flood platform in collaboration with MUSE Science Museum in Trento, where in 2023 he founded the Anthropocene Collection with the support of the PAC Piano Arte Contemporanea of the Italian Ministry of Culture. Since 2023, he has been the artistic director of Castel Belasi – Contemporary Art Center for Eco Thought. He is also the curator of the exhibition Soil Art Tales, which will be presented over the next two years in seven European museums as part of a Horizon EU program, including the Serralves Foundation in Porto and the National Gallery of Bulgaria.
Twice winner of the Italian Council (2023, 2019) of the Italian Ministry of Culture, he studied at the Accademia di Brera in Milan and at Ryerson University in Toronto with a post-doctoral scholarship from the Canadian Government.
