Zhao Jie
Zhao Jie (b.1983, Qingdao, China) is Associate Professor and Master Supervisor at Tianjin
Academy of Fine Arts (TAFA), China, and a PhD candidate in Artistic and Creative Technology at
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. His research focuses on 3D animation, interactive
art, and communication studies, with an emphasis on digital sustainability and cross-cultural
innovation. He holds a Bachelor–Master degree from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (2002–2006) and
completed advanced training in new media art at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and
Design Halle & ZKM Karlsruhe, Germany (2016). Zhao has served as Visiting Professor at Beijing
Film Academy and Cultural Consultant at Hebei University of Technology.
He actively contributes to international academic platforms through multiple roles. He has
presented at POSDEV 2023 (Indonesia), DMAITM 2024 (Bahrain), SSiU 2024 (UMK, Malaysia), i-
PASCA 2024 (UiTM), CIVAE 2025 (Spain), and CLASSIC 2025 (Malaysia). He was Session Chair at
ICBTOxford’2024 (University of Oxford, UK), exhibitor at Bridging Eastern Values Showcase 2024
(UiTM Melaka), panel expert for UiTM’s “Beyond First Frame” exhibition, and peer reviewer for
Taylor & Francis (Cogent Arts & Humanities). His academic publications include Interactive Animation Design (2016, Chemical Industry Press), New Media Crossover Interaction Design (2017, Tsinghua University Press), and peer-
reviewed articles in Idealogy Journal, Journal of Creative Arts, International Journal of Art and
Design, and Springer Nature volumes. His 2025 CIVAE paper is indexed by Web of Science.
Prof. Zhao’s CG artworks have received recognition both nationally and internationally: Graffiti
Street (11th National Art Exhibition,2009), Future-Waterworld (8th UCCEP, 2014), Olympic Bull
(Gold, Hong Kong Contemporary Design Award 2021), Moon Rabbit (Bronze, London 4
th CAE 2023), and AI Dragon (Bronze, North America 2024). XiWa Meta Genesis (Bronze,BICC2 025).
As founder of BalancerStudio, Prof. Zhao promotes Research-Creation through his conceptual
framework Media-Tech Soil, applying Scientific Aesthetics to Interactive Animation in global
collaboration.
