Can Altay

Can Altay has been addressing cohabitation through his investigations and propositions on the politics of everyday life, public space, urban ecologies, objects of use, and artistic action for over two decades. Altay often produces “settings” that open themselves to common use and act as sites of collective production. Recently, he has been working on instruments and speculations around access to water. His investigations also appear, at times, as complex document-based installations and as sculptural and image-based work.
Altay is currently the Graduate Program Director of Adaptive Reuse at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) and a former Head of Department of Industrial Design and Interior Design at Istanbul Bilgi University. His podcast Ahali Conversations was a recipient of the Graham Grant, and his works have been widely exhibited in art institutions as well as public spaces.
