Fabio Salbitano

FABIO SALBITANO, PhD in Forest Ecology, is Professor at the University of Sassari, where he teaches silviculture, urban tree systems, urban ecology and biodiversity, and the sustainable design and management of urban and peri-urban forests. He is one of the creators, promoters, and members of the scientific committee of the World Forum on Urban Forests (WFUF). He is also co-editor of the book Transforming Biocities, produced within the European Forest Institute initiatives on Biocities.
His research has focused on forest, health and wellbeing, landscape ecology and history, ecosystem restoration, strategic planning and community engagement, wildfire ecology, and risk assessment. He has been involved in numerous international and local projects on forest ecology, urban forest governance, health and climate change, community participation in urban forest design and management, and nature-based solutions. Since 2001, he has actively contributed to FAO Urban and Peri-Urban Forestry programs.
Fabio coordinates the scientific committee of the AlberItalia Foundation. He has recently started a research project on “Forest and Trees Ecosystem Services through the Lens of Art.” He is President of the association TreeArt in Buttrio (UD), a member of the scientific committee of the annual TreeArt Festival (six editions), and one of the promoters of Il Bosco Risonante (The Echoing Forest) (two editions), an art performance celebrating forests and trees. He is also the author of short novels. Fabio loves trees, forests, and people.
