Suzanne Lacy

Suzanne Lacy (born 1945 in Wasco, California) is an American artist, educator, writer, and activist. She is a pioneer in socially engaged and public practice art, using performance, video, installation, public art, photography, and artist books to address issues such as gender, aging, sexual violence, urban injustice, and labor. She is a professor at the Roski School of Art and Design, University of Southern California. Her prominent works include Three Weeks in May (1977), Whisper, the Waves, the Wind (1984), and The Crystal Quilt (1987), among many others. Her writing includes Mapping the Terrain: New Genre Public Art and Leaving Art: Writings on Performance, Politics, and Publics, 1974–2007.
