Maria Grazia Mattei

A humanist and art critic, Maria Grazia Mattei has been exploring the digital world for over thirty years. She has explored its frontiers and recognized its potential since the 1980s, a journey that culminated in 2005 in Meet the Media Guru, a platform for discussion and public debate on innovation. Mattei has invited over one hundred pioneers of contemporary and digital culture to Milan for Meet the Media Guru evenings, including Zygmunt Bauman, Paola Antonelli, Edgar Morin, Joi Ito, Lawrence Lessig, Don Norman, Manuel Castells, and many others.
With the support of Fondazione Cariplo , in 2018 Mattei created MEET Digital Culture Center , the first International Center for Digital Art and Culture located in Milan's Piazza Oberdan. Spread across three floors and 1,500 square meters, MEET is a place for meeting, experimentation, and discussion that studies and disseminates digital technology, believing that innovation is a cultural, even more than a technological, phenomenon.
As an art critic, Mattei curated the Italian editions of the retrospectives dedicated to the Californian animation studio Pixar, first held at the PAC in Milan and at the Fondazione Palazzo Te in Mantua (2011) and subsequently at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome (2018). She has organized numerous initiatives dedicated to the dissemination and deepening of digital culture, for the professional world and the general public, in collaboration with prestigious organizations and institutions including Digifest (Toronto), Siggraph (USA), Imagina (France), and Triennale (Milan).
Mattei has developed innovation projects for the business world with the Milan Chamber of Commerce. Since 2016, she has served on the Board of Directors of Artemide; from 2014 to 2019, she was a member of the Central Charity Commission of the Cariplo Foundation.
